Musician Francis Kalawe is one the most outspoken artists on social media, specifically Facebook. In 2015, Kalawe hit the spotlight with the single “Dzuka Malawi” in which he provides commentary on social and political landscape. He later went on to release “Major 1 Sanagive” in which he hails his spiritual father, founder and leader of Enlightened Christian Gathering, Prophet Bushiri.

He again caused a social media storm when he posted a K30 million Rolex watch, courtesy of Bushiri.

In his recent Facebook storm, the artist was at it again addressing politicians, attacking both the ruling and opposition for the current hunger crisis.

In October 2019, Prophet Bushiri took time to expose the scheme that held onto Malawi’s maize for evil purposes. As a solution, the South African based Prophet offered to help by supplying Malawi Government with maize at a very cheap price so that in turn Government sells at a subsidized price.

Sadly, according to Kalawe, a few business tycoons took advantage of the poor Malawians, buying the maize at as little as K50/KG translating to K2,500 per 50 KGs bag.

The unscrupulous business men then kept the maize in silos, waiting for a day like today, when the maize would be in very short supply, just so they inflate the prices, without care for those who cannot afford and eventually die of hunger.

Further, in his observation, Malawi’s maize yield for the year 2019 was 3,400,1000 metric tones, an increase by 21 percent from the year 2018, meaning the country had more than enough to be food sufficient.

On valentines day, in Mangochi, in less than thirty minutes, thousands of hungry residents scrambled, to buy cheap maize offered by Major1. 800 bags were sold at K500 per 50Kg bag in less than thirty minutes, Kalawe revealed in a Facebook post.

On a rather lighter note, capitalizing on the Valentines Day hype, the artist took a swipe at Malawians at large, highlighting a paradox that people make a big deal on trivial like “men’s conference” and not on holding leaders accountable for allowing a situation like this to happen, despite the many warnings.

Despite our political differences, we must always have the welfare of people at heart. When a warning is made, we must take heel to save lives. Prophet Bushiri gesture must be recommended and thanks to Kalawe for highlighting the issue on a public domain.
