What brother Shammah Vocals ( Malawi) said on his Facebook page. About people not being willing to invest Millions on a music artist is true.
To make highest grades of progress in the Malawi entertainment sector we need highest levels of Investments, without that nothing would happen. And possible, forward movement only takes action, then when someone does something about it.
My question would be,
How can one invest in something that he, is not sure of its returns? A wise man once said that “Would you saw where you’re not certain of harvest ?”
My answer is no!
And now, no matter how much people would have in their pocket but if the industry shows no potential of returning what it takes, nobody would dare to invest.
For a music artist to blow on an international level It would take about 3-5 years of investments. Costing approximately $20000-$50000 a year.
- high class music videos
- Dope international features
- Highest level of PR/Marketing or artist branding campaigns
- Including tours, within the country and beyond
USD$50000 = K362,500000
Let’s take for an example Onesimus, despite having that which seems as the right resources it has taken him close to 10 years to make a meaningful impact on the international market. Now, such levels of investments, where would we access them to invest in our industry?
And how much do we expect to get when our investment starts to blossom?
Now, where do we focus on,? as revenue channels or areas which gotta bring back profit?
Such is a million dollar question once again, which many have no answers to. I’ve studied the music (Entertainment) industry for so long and this question can be delt with.
My opinion is, we should first invest in education, seminars, meeting, bootcamps, round table discussion so as a way to open each others mind on how the industry works.
On how music companies makes money from an artist, as well how can we creatively invest on the right crop at a right time to expect the right harvest.
Hence we need to go further than this, because this is a serious business looking for the right attitude and it needs patient and great math. Plus vast knowledge and understanding. We can re-invest in the industry only by starting now, and focusing on right areas.
Since we have seen many try and fail, only because they never understood the math involved.
I will keep on writing more on this topic of discussion about Malawi and it’s Music Industry.
