Ritaa made her first musical move in 2015 when she contested in E wallet national singing competition. But, she came into the limelight in 2016 after she dropped her first collaboration single “Chapatali” which she featured Afro Pop singer Dan Lu.

She further released “Unaponda pati” in 2017, “Winner” in 2018, and “Sugar” in 2019.

Ritaa is back in 2020. She has released “Kuwawa” featuring Piksy and Mubwere.

Award winning journalist Harold Kapindu caught up with Ritaa in this exclusive interview.

Harold: What inspired you to start singing?

Ritaa: My inspiration came from the fact that I grew up in a family that listened to lots of music, I was surrounded by lots of music hence I developed a love and passion for singing and eventually joined a church choir.

Harold: You once contested in E-Wallet and you have released a series of singles in the past. What’s new?

Ritaa: I have released two singles in 2020. “Kuwawa” featuring Piksy and “Mubwere”. “Kuwawa” came out in late April, both audio and video. “Mubwere” audio dropped on Friday and the video will follow on Wednesday this week.

Harold: Who produced these songs?

Ritaa: They were both produced by Sispence.

Harold: And the videos?

Ritaa: “Kuwawa” was shot and directed by Vinny Visuals, and “Mubwere” was shot and directed by Ubwino.

Harold: Tell us more about the new single. What’s the story behind?

Ritaa: “Mubwere” is a plea from a child to their father to return home. The father left home to seek greener pastures but never returned.

Harold: From the time you started to where you are, has your sound changed in any way?

Ritaa: Yes. I started off as an R&B singer, and slowly gravitated to Afro Music. And also as I am growing, the content in my music has been changing.

Harold: How can you describe your current sound?

Ritaa: My sound can be described as Afrocentric with an urban touch.

Harold: Any more plans for year 2020 or maybe these two singles are enough?

Ritaa: Nope. Am currently working on my first album which will include collaborations from various artists, and it’s expected to be done by October.
