The Malawi women nation football team (the Scorchers) beats South Africa’s Banyana Banyana to qulifier for the 2021 Cosafa Women’s Championship Final! The march was played at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in what would be described as a spectacular show case.
First corner to Bayanya Banyana came in at 5 minutes in the first half. Mamelo Makhabane took it but Ireen Khumalo cleared it away. As the Scorchers came in at 7th minute with a corner. Taken by Sabinah Thom and Madise head it over the bar. 33rd minute Scorchers came in exchanging passes through Zainab Kapanda, Asimenye Simwaka Sabinah Thom and Fazila Chembekezo but it was too late to finish.
Fazila Chembekezo heads in Ireen Khumalo’s setpiece at 38th minute to put Malawi ahead with a 0-1 lead. At 44th minute Tiitsetso Makhubela beat defender Ruth Nyirongo but her strike went off target.
Yellow card to Chimwemwe Madise after a foul on Noxolo Cesane came in at 49th minute. With the match officials awarding a freekick to South Africa. Sabina Thom put the Scorchers in the lead at 73rd minute. The referee awarded a Penalty to South Africa after a foul in the box. Sibulele Holweni scored to equalize and make it South Africa 2-Malawi 2.
First substitution for the Scorchers came at 83rd minute with Carolyne Mathyola replacing Wezzie Mvula. Sabina Thom put the ball behind the keeper at exactly 85th minute to put the Scorchers ahead with 3 goals to 2. The Scorchers made it through to the 2021 Cosafa Women’s Championship. They will meet Tanzania in the Final match on Saturday.
