Malawi’s international Temwa continues to shine in women’s football game as today she helped Malawi women football team win over Zambia by a goal to zero. The goal came in the 1st half, after Temwa Chawinga headed in a pass from Zainabu Kapanda.
At 14 minutes Zainabu Kapanda missed a clear chance after her shot from Temwa’s pass went slightly beside the goal post. The match which took place at Wolfson Stadium in Port Elizabeth saw the Malawi women qualifying into the semi finals of the competition since 2011 without a loss this time.
Malawi’s Tabitha Chawinga, a sister to Temwa was all smiles as she helped her sister celebrate the player of the match accolade. Which Tabitha scooped in the recent game against Lesotho.
The Scorchers managed to defend there sole goal to the last minute, in what was a tight game hence goal drought compared to the last March against Lesotho. Zambia pushed hard for the better part of second half, where they dominated ball possession
Coach McNelbert Kazuwa was happy with the win “I am very happy for the win. We have been looking forward to this moment for a long time. They have been beating us so we were planning on how to defeat them.
“We advised our girls to attack more, and that’s exactly what they have done so we are very grateful to them.
Now that we are through to the semi finals, we will go back to the drawing board on how to approach the next March and we believe that our girls will make us proud again”. He said
With the win Malawi has won group B without conceeding a goal
