George Luwayo is a 25 year old model residing in Machinjiri, Blantyre.
In 2016, George was scouted into the industry and was inspired by generally the thrill of walking on the biggest international runways such as New York Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week.
“I saw myself walking on those runways,” he says.
This far, George has participated in quite a number of events namely UMP Fashion Show, Africa Fashion & Arts Festival, Khalidwe Wear Fashion Show, British High Commissioner Fashion Show, Fashion For Change, WAFE and Sand Music Festival Fashion Show among others.
“My highest point in modelling was when I modelled at the British High Commissioner’s residence, Holy Tett back in 2018. Its the highest point all because the audience was filled with Malawi’s renowned politicians, business peoples and of course the British High Commissioner,” he recalls.
According to George, the greatest challenge facing models is lack of exposure to the outside world.
“Its like our industry is not that recognized, we are looked down on, as such we are still local. To the designers, fellow models and organizers, let’s push the fashion industry and see where it will get us to. To the those inspiring to become models, keep pushing till you make it,” he observes.
George idolises Cristiano Ronaldo for his dedication and hard work.
He explains, “I am mostly inspired by his will to take up challenges. So as a model, I challenge myself that with hard work, i will make it out there.”
